Cryo-electron microscopy reveals protein structures. Our products add the missing dimensions:
microsecond time resolution with CryoFlash, and broader particle views with CryoShuffle.
Capture fast structural changes and obtain better reconstructions with your conventional workflow.
Two products, two long-standing cryo‑EM challenges
Capture fast protein motions with CryoFlash. Add missing particle views with CryoShuffle.

CryoFlash
From picture to motion picture. CryoFlash uses laser melt-and-freeze cycles
to capture transient protein structures in a vitrified cryo‑EM sample, adding microsecond time
resolution to your cryo‑EM experiments.
More views, better reconstructions. Smart tweezers apply gentle ultrasonic
excitation during plunge freezing, so particles keep tumbling while they freeze.
Structures show how proteins are built. Capturing their motions reveals how they
work. We build instruments that allow cryo‑EM to capture these fast motions, opening new
possibilities for structural biology and drug discovery.
Revealing protein motions can expose new druggable conformations and support better-informed
target selection and drug design decisions.
Built on years of research at EPFL
Alpion CryoSolutions is built on years of peer-reviewed research into microsecond
time-resolved cryo‑EM from the Lorenz lab at EPFL.
µs
Microsecond time resolution
Traditional time-resolved methods reach tens of milliseconds. CryoFlash is designed for the microsecond scale, where function happens.
10+
Peer-reviewed papers
Our methods are based on an extensive publication record.
5
Patent applications pending
Five applications cover the methods behind our products, three of them already published.
The underlying research was funded by the European
Research Council (ERC Starting Grant) and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF
Consolidator Grant). Funding for company creation comes from Innosuisse (BRIDGE Proof of Concept)
and an EPFL Innogrant. External testing of CryoFlash takes place at the Dubochet Center for
Imaging Lausanne.
Who it is for
Built for the labs doing the work
Core facilities
Offer your users new experimental capabilities without modifying
your existing infrastructure. Run the experiment upstream, then collect data on your cryo‑EM microscopes.
Academic labs
Bring new experiments into your own laboratory with compact
hardware that fits familiar sample preparation workflows.
Drug discovery teams
Explore transient target conformations and the mechanisms
connecting them to open new possibilities for structure-guided drug discovery.
What could you discover with a new view?
Microsecond time resolution with CryoFlash, or overcoming preferred orientation with
CryoShuffle. Join the non-binding waiting list, or tell us about your samples and we will take
it from there.
